I'm not sure how I've been talked into this, but come next May, I'm sure to be embarrassed by these predictions for the 2009-2010 Premiership season.
First up - who's going to win it?
Well, right now, Manchester United haven't bought a replacement for either Ronaldo or Tevez, which they absolutely must do in order to compete for the title.
Presuming Benzema comes in - which looks likely - and assuming that Berbatov pulls his finger out, there's absolutely no reason why United shouldn't be in with a shout come the end of the season.
Their main challengers - Liverpool? I think Liverpool are likely to lose both Alonso and Mascherano and if they do, they won't be in with a prayer.
Chelsea? Chelsea seem to be struggling to get players in and are also struggling to ship them out too. I can't see a decent challenge from Chelsea unless they radically reshape their squad and there's no indications that they will do that.
Arsenal? I'm going to stick my neck out here and say that Arsenal could run Manchester United close. Their end of season form, especially after bringing in Arshavin, was good and if they can get rid of a few of those disruptive influences like Adebayor and Gallas, then they could do well.
So, what about Manchester City? I'd like to see City crack the top four. Sod it, I'd like to see anyone crack the top four. If they get Tevez and Eto'o, they'll have a phenomenal forward line and just need a quality central defender to shure up the defence.
I can see them taking Chelsea or Liverpool's place in the elite of the Premiership for 2009-2010.
Feel free to come back to this article in May and have a damn good laugh at my expense.
