Defender Danny Higginbotham faces a late fitness test for Tony Pulis' Stoke City, while Burnley have an injury crisis already.
While Stoke have - Higginbotham excepted - a fully fit squad to call upon, Burnley have three defenders missing with Steven Caldwell out with a groin strain, Michael Duff missing with an ankle problem and David Edgar out through suspension.
Burnley boss Owen Coyle has promised to play fearless, attacking football and this match at Stoke will prove a stiff test.
Steven Fletcher is likely to be the main focal point of the attack, supported by Robbie Blake and Kris Eagles.
Stoke City's starting eleven is set to be little changed from that which fared so well last season. James Beattie and Ricardo Fuller will spearhead the attack although new signing Dean Whitehead is set for a start in midfield.
Midfielders Matthew Etherington and Liam Lawrence are both set to start for Tony Pulis' side.
