Ruud To Liverpool and Other Transfer Rumours

The latest on the future of Ruud Van Nistelroy has him moving not to Arsenal as first thought, but to Liverpool, if the Daily Mirror are to be believed.

Real Madrid are apparently prepared to let the player go on loan and Liverpool is thought to be his first choice. We'll see...

Elsewhere, the tabloids are hyping a story that David Villa may move to the Premiership. Largely on the basis that he said “I have not closed the door on any club” and “I have had a lot of offers, but I would have to pick the best option, and that could be in the Premier League, which I have never ruled out.” Hardly definitive stuff, I'm sure you'll agree.

More certain is that Burnley will try to make striker David Nugent's loan move from Portsmouth permanent in January. Manager Owen Coyle has said of the player, “David Nugent has been a breath of fresh air since he came here and I want him here permanently.” That's more like the kind of ‘rumours' I like.

Manchester City vs Hull Preview

Robinho could return for the first time since September for Man City, while Jimmy Bullard is back in contention for Phil Brown's Hull City.

Bullard was rested for Hull's midweek victory over Everton, but will return to a central midfield role, most likely in place of the veteran George Boateng.

Fellow midfielder Bernard Mendy is back in contention for a spot on the right side, with Richard Garcia the man likely to make way.

Back in contention is forward Craig Fagan, but Jozy Altidore looks set to keep his place as the spearhead of the Hull City attack.

Manchester City manager Mark Hughes is hopeful that Robinho will be fit enough for a place in the squad, although it looks unlikely that the Brazilian will start.

With Stephen Ireland establishing himself once again in the City midfield, Carlos Tevez will take his place on the bench, with Emmanuel Adebayor and Craig Bellamy the preferred striking partnership.

Midfielder Vincent Kompany and Michael Johnson are both back in contention after coming through midweek reserve matches with no ill-effects, but winger Martin Petrov is definitely out with a knee injury.

Bolton vs Blackburn Match Preview

Current Blackburn Rovers and former Bolton boss Sam Allardyce will miss this match due to surgery, while his squad are relatively injury free.

Indeed, with midfielder Vince Grella back after a hamstring problem, Allardyce has options in all areas of the pitch.

After impressive substitute performances last time out, strikers Jason Roberts and Benni McCarthy could start in place of Franco Di Santo in attack.

With Grella back to full fitness, Republic of Ireland international Keith Andrews may be rested.

Back for Bolton is full back JLloyd Samuel after suspension and the player may start in place of the veteran Paul Robinson.

Definitely out for Gary Megson's side, however, is Tamir Cohen. Cohen's absence may prompt a tactical reshuffled with Sweden international Johan Elmander starting upfront with Kevin Davies. Fellow striker Ivan Klasnic will be on the bench.

Korean midfielder Chung-Yong Lee could start with Mark Davies dropping to the bench for Bolton Wanderers.

Premiership Betting Tips For Nov 21-22

OK, I'm not really going to stick my neck out this week as most of the weekend's matches are uninspiring to say the least, but here are my top football betting tips for November 21st and 22nd's football.

Birmingham City vs Fulham : 15:00 GMT Sat Nov 21st

Birmingham have looked fairly solid, or should that be, drab this season. They are hard to break down but have only recently been showing any signs of attacking flair.

By contrast Fulham have been going about their business with quiet efficiency and are a team that likes to play football, but they don't concede many either. Roy Hodgson's men are five games unbeaten and I don't see that run ending at Birmingham's hands.

Best Bet : Birmingham and Fulham to draw (23/10 at Stan James - Click to bet or open account)

Chelsea vs Wolverhampton Wanderers Betting Tips : 15:00 GMT Sat Nov 21st

Even with injuries to Frank Lampard and Michael Ballack plus doubts about the fitness of John Terry and Ashley Cole, I just can't see Wolves taking anything from this match.

Wolves don't have the necessary threat going forward to really trouble Chelsea, so I can see the league leaders winning to nil.

Best Bet : Chelsea to win to nil (8/11 at Paddy Power - Click to bet or open account)

Tottenham vs Wigan Betting Tips : 15:00 Sun Nov 22nd

Wigan have looked great and awful in pretty much equal measure this season and Spurs have, of course, been their usual inconsistent selves.

However, Aaron Lennon returns for Harry Redknapp's side to provide some much needed width and the passing game new Wigan boss Roberto Martinez encourages will play right into Spurs' hands. I can't see this being anything other than a home win.

Best Bet : Tottenham to win (1/2 at Bet365 - Click to bet or open account)

Blackburn v Stoke City Preview

With Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce recuperating from heart surgery, assistant manager Neil McDonald may make a number of changes ahead of the visit of Tony Pulis' Stoke City to Ewood Park.

Full back Gael Givet has finally overcome a niggling thigh injury and is set to start in place of Lars Jacobsen, with Australian midfielder Brett Emerton also likely to be recalled to the Blackburn starting eleven. Keith Andrews could drop to the bench.

Upfront, Franco Di Santo could be replaced by Benni McCarthy, with Jason Roberts retaining his place as the other forward.

Stoke City boss Tony Pulis will welcome skipper Abdoulaye Faye back to central defence after the player was suspended for Stoke's 1-0 win over Portsmouth. Robert Huth is likely to be shifted to right back to accomodate Faye.

Republic of Ireland international Glenn Whelan is set to be recalled after missing out last time with a groin strain.

There is still no place in the starting eleven for Tuncay Sanli, with James Beattie and Ricardo Fuller the preferred strike partnership.

Gibbs Fractures Metatarsal

Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs has fractured a metatarsal and will be missing for a number of weeks.

The young defender had only just returned from injury and suffered the fracture in the closing minutes of Arsenal's 2-0 victory over Standard Liege, following a hefty challenge by Eliaquim Mangala.

Fellow defender William Gallas was also substituted during the match.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger commented :

“Gallas has an ankle problem and a swollen eye. I think he will recover from the eye, and from the ankle we hope so.”

“Gibbs is much more serious. It was a very bad challenge, and it was not the player's first try. We have to X-ray him and I think he has gone to hospital to check because he has a big hole in his leg.”

“He doesn't look too good, and that is unfortunate.”

Stoke City v Portsmouth Preview

Abdoulaye Faye is suspended for Tony Pulis' Stoke City side, while Portsmouth have a number of key players rated doubtful.

Portsmouth's top scorer Aruna Dindane has a hamstring problem, while midfielder Hassan Yebda has a calf injury and both players will face late fitness tests ahead of this match.

Back in contention, however, is left back Hermann Hreidarsson, who has been plagued with a long standing hamstring injury. The veteran is likely to be on the bench however, with Nadir Belhadj or Anthony Vanden Borre more plausible starters.

If striker Dindane doesn't make it, Frederic Piquionne could be partnered either by Tommy Smith or by Danny Webber.

Sunderland vs Arsenal Preview

Arsenal will be missing top scorer Robin Van Persie for their trip to a Sunderland side who are without first choice goalkeeper Craig Gordon.

Gordon broke his arm against Tottenham a couple of weeks ago and will be replaced by Marton Fulop in goal.

With striker Kenwyne Jones still suspended, Darren Bent is set to partnered in attack by Fraizer Campbell.

Back also for Steve Bruce's Sunderland side is midfielder Lorik Cana, who has served a suspension. Fellow midfielder Bolo Zenden is also in contention, but is expected to take a place on the bench.

Defender John Mensah has overcome a calf problem and is set to start in central defence alongside Phil Bardsley.

WIth both Robin Van Persie and Nicklas Bendtner sidelined, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is likely to start with Eduardo upfront on his own.

Former Manchester United man Mikael Silvestre is set to replace Gael Clichy at left back.

Returning from injury for Arsenal are midfielder Denilson, who has overcome a back problem, ‘keeper Lukasz Fabianski, striker Carlos Vela and defender Armand Traore. All are expected to start on the bench.

Tottenham vs Wigan Preview

Tottenham centre back Ledley King is absent with a hamstring problem, while Roberto Martinez' Wigan Athletic are still missing left back Maynor Figueroa.

Deputising for the Honduran will be former Spurs player, Erik Edman.

Figueroa aside, Wigan picked up no new injuries over the international break, so Trinidad international Jason Scotland and Columbia's Hugo Rodallega will again start upfront for Martinez' side.

In Ledley King's absence, Michael Dawson is likely to partner Jonathan Woodgate in the Tottenham defence.

With goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini unlikely to play again this season after a motorbike crash, Heurelho Gomes will start and youngster Ben Alnwick will be on the bench.

After missing 3 weeks with an ankle problem, winger Aaron Lennon is back in contention and is set to start in place of David Bentley.

Jermain Defoe and Robbie Keane are Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp's preferred starting partnership in attack, with Peter Crouch on the bench.

Zaki In Race Row

Former Wigan striker Amr Zaki, who had been one of the major targets for Portsmouth shareholder Sulaiman Al-Fahim, has claimed that he will not move to the South Coast club due to their employment of Israelis (Director of Football Avram Grant and defender Tal Ben Haim) and an Algerian footballer (left back Nadir Belhadj).

Talking on his personal website, Zaki is quoted as saying:

“I refused their offer before, but now joining Portsmouth is no longer an option for me.”

“After Portsmouth signed an Israeli player and also hired an Israeli football director a possible move was ruled out. On top of that, no way could I play at Portsmouth with an Algerian within in their ranks.”

Tensions between Egypt and Algeria have been at a high recently, after Algeria qualified for the World Cup Finals at Egypt's expense.
