Liverpool vs Birmingham Preview

Defender Jamie Carragher is suspended for Liverpool, while Birmingham City will be missing midfielder Barry Ferguson, also as a result of suspension.

With defensive duo Carragher and Dregen both suspended, the return to fitness of Martin Skrtel and Fabio Aurelio is timely for Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez.

Skrtel is likely to replace Carragher and will partner Daniel Agger in central defence.

Liverpool boss Benitez will make late decisions on the fitness of key players Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard. Both have been struggling with medium term groin injuries but it is likely that Torres will start.

Birmingham City welcome on-loan goalkeeper Joe Hart back to the starting lineup after he was ineligible to play against parent club Manchester City last weekend.

Lee Carsley will deputise for Barry Ferguson in central midfield.

Striker Gary O'Connor has a knee injury and is unlikely to feature, so Cameron Jerome and Christian Benitez will continue in attack for Alex McLeish's side.
