Portsmouth Hit With Transfer Ban

Portsmouth FC have confirmed that they have been banned from signing new players by the Premier League.

The transfer ban relates to a failure by Portsmouth to make payments to other clubs for players they have bought in the past.

Dan Johnson, a spokesman for the Premier League, confirmed:

“We can confirm that there is an embargo on Portsmouth registering any new players.”

Officials for Portsmouth appear confident that the embargo will not last long and the club's director of communications, Gary Double is quoted as saying :

“This concerns unpaid money to other clubs and it is in the process of being sorted.

“We are confident the situation will be sorted by the end of the week.”
