Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie has appeared in court on a charge of ‘cheating the public revenue'.
The accusation relates to the transfer of midfielder Amdy Faye from Auxurre to Portsmouth. Storrie is accused of arranging that the fee due to be paid to Faye was instead paid via the account of the players agent, Willie McKay, “causing a failure on the part of the club to operate PAYE and account for income tax and national insurance contributions in respect of that fee”.
Storrie has vowed to vigorously defend himself against the charge and the case has been adjourned until January 20th, 2010.
