Tottenham v Sunderland Preview

Striker Jermain Defoe returns from suspension for Tottenham Hotspur, while Sunderland captain Lorik Cana is missing.

Midfielder Cana picked up his fifth yellow card of the season during Sunderland's clash with West Ham and will be suspended for this match.

With fellow midfielder Lee Cattermole out long term, Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has selection problems in the central midfield areas. Steed Malbranque could be moved into a central role with Kieran Richardson pushing up onto the left of midfield.

George McCartney could come in at left back to take the position vacated by Richardson.

With striker Kenwyne Jones also suspended, ex-Tottenham man Darren Bent is likely to be partnered by Fraizer Campbell in attack.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp will return to his preferred strike pairing of Robbie Keane and Jermain Defoe, with Peter Crouch dropping to the bench.

Aaron Lennon, who has an ankle injury, will face a late fitness test. His manager rates him 50/50 to play any part in this match. If he doesn't make it, David Bentley will again start on the right side of the Spurs midfield.

Jonathan Woodgate will replace Sebastien Bassong in central defence, as Bassong has a hamstring injury.
