Sunderland vs Blackburn Preview

Lee Cattermole is doubtful for Sunderland, while Blackburn Rovers captain Ryan Nelsen returns from injury.

Nelsen missed the opening two matches of the season, but Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce is hopeful the New Zealander will be able to start this match.

Also in line for a start is new signing, striker Nikola Kalinic who may replace Jason Roberts as partner to Benni McCarthy.

Former Real defender Michel Salgado has yet to receive international clearance and so will not be able to turn out for his new club.

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has a number of injury concerns. Midfielder Lee Cattermole's back problem is likely to sideline the former Wigan man, while Steed Malbranque is still missing with an ankle problem.

More seriously, goalkeeper Marton Fulop has had injections into a heel injury as fellow ‘keeper Craig Gordon is not yet fit enough to deputise.

The in-form Darren Bent will once again partner Kenwyne Jones in attack.
